My buddy was at the United Center last night, and he said that the tears and outpouring of affection for Joe Biden was exactly what it was like in the room. I'm glad that Joe Biden was given that gift last night; you could see his appreciation for it on his face.

Still, what left the deepest impression on me was seeing the Biden family join Joe on stage. The moment when Beau, his grandson, held Grandpa's hand as he walked off that stage? Good God, may we all be so blessed. Joe can walk away from this job because he has something more at home. He might have been the least wealthy Senator, but he could be the President with the greatest gifts.

I'll never stop being grateful that he was our 46th President of these United States.

I have a niece who has struggled with a stutter since she was in grade school. There is an anual conference to raise awareness and money. VP Biden was the keynote speaker in 2016 when my niece was 13. Before his speech, he made his way around the room talking to attendees and just being Joe Biden. He spoke with my niece and her family for maybe 2-3 minutes. During his speech, he asked her to join him on stage and he told her story just from the things he'd learned a few minutes prior. He found her afterwards, handed her his card, and told her to call him directly if she ever needed anything -- that she would be "put right through" if she called that number. He just a guy who loves people and has a deep empathy.

I've thought he was the best choice during the 2020 primaries and (like JVL) I've been proven right. Not perfect by any stretch -- but damn good and exactly what we needed.
