Bill, I'm disappointed in you and mainstream media latching onto Obama's offhand comments AT THE DEMOCRATIC CAMPAIGN HEADQUARTERS BEFORE HIS SPEECH directed to black men in the Democratic party. As if the fox/trump media didn't have enough wedge ammo already, this fixation on the informal comments demeans Obama's powerful energizing address which should be the main story.

After reading the headlines and stories in the media today about Obama's appearance in Pittsburgh, I had to find and listen twice again to see what I missed last night in his nationally televised speech. But indeed, Obama mentioned race not at all. Rather, in what I heard (as a white male) in the most powerful part of his address, Obama called out Trump's bullying and weakness by urging ALL men ("I'm sorry gentlemen, but I noticed this mostly with the men") to exhibit "real strength" by working hard, carrying a heavy load without complaining, taking responsibility for your actions, telling the truth even when it's inconvenient, helping people who need it, standing up for those who can't always stand up for themselves. I'm getting chills just writing the power of those words, never mind that they represent everything that Trump is not.

So that's why I'm disappointed that media is making the story about Obama's comments at campaign headquarters. Some outlets actually conflate those comments into his address as if he said them in the arena. But he didn't. I prefer to remember his inspiring speech as it was.
