Tonight PBS News Hour discussed some of the things Vought believes Trump can do to exercise the more expansive executive power Vought believes he has. I would love to hear a podcast or read an article that sheds light on whether any of this is remotely true. If not, is there what are the mechanisms to stop him from firing thousands of civil servants, eliminating agencies, etc.
The best way to get these people gone is for the press to have them on the airwaves every chance they can and just ask easy questions like about Hegseths writings about his thoughts on use of the military. Or Musk thinking he can just decide what needs to be cut and why give him leeway let him say it out loud he wants to cut Medicare social security and programs that millions depend on. And let him comfortably talk about how Trump is for these things. Let him explain uninterrupted on CNN about why the Uber wealthy need further tax cuts. I sure this would fly with MAGA like a lead balloon
ABC News reported last night that the president-elect is working his phones, calling Republicans in the Senate. He’s demanding the Senate vote to approve his cabinet nominees without holding Advise and Consent (A&C) hearings.
Of course, our Constitution requires A&C Senate Hearings. We all know what the president-elect thinks of our Constitution. Do you want to resist him? Of course. We all do.
Well, here’s the best way to get in the boxing 🥊 ring and fight him. RESIST him virtually ! Call Your Senators !
Democrats in the senate are fooling themselves thinking that can have votes on Trump's cabinet nominees. Johnson will just adjourn for 10+ days, even if the Senate disagrees, Trump can then force an adjournment of both houses. Democrats need to quit dreaming and play hardball, just like Trump is.
Dems need to appeal to enough anti-trump republicans in congress to play ball and vote for Jeffries for speaker. This will thwart Trump's plan. How to convince the republican's in congress? Do whatever it takes. Cajole, arm twist, extort, blackmail, whatever it takes. Play dirty, just like Trump does.
I wonder if the same Supreme Court that would say Airplanes are irrelevant, let recess appointments stand would also say, airplanes change everything about birthright citizenship (birthright tourism would probably be the wedge Trump strategists would use).
As the Roman state passed from Republic to arbitrary power, people believed the old oak of Roman rule of law would endure. Murder and rape were still illegal, unless the emperor committed it. Bribery and theft too, unless the "first citizen" had done it. Once the poison of arbitrary power was introduced, however, it eroded and dissolved the rule of law, leaving only tyranny and a memory of liberty lost.
"[Trump] is constructing a kind of anti-government . . . Every appointee is selected as a deliberate negation, even a mockery, of the function of government he or she will be in charge of. . . . These individuals are not merely unqualified for their offices. They are disqualified. They are anti-qualified—the antithesis of what the offices call for."
"This sets the theme for Trump’s second administration, in which he is clearly setting out to break our whole constitutional order. . . . It is a mistake to think that authoritarian leaders want to strengthen government. To the contrary, they want to weaken government’s institutions. They want an unstructured government, one without rules and procedures, so as to leave fewer impediments to their whims. That is the point of Trump’s anti-government: to provide more scope for the exercise of arbitrary and capricious power."
Well, since the Republicans' 2024 platform was explicit about Trump's ultimate aims; Trump and Harris spent no less than 20 minutes debating the pros and cons of such an outcome in each of their four debates; and Trump encouraged and fully answered probing questions about his vision for the American form of government from experts and members of the public in a dozen town hall meetings before November 5, Trump can surely claim a mandate to break our whole constitutional order. Only those Americans who were most tuned out during the campaigns will be justifiably able to claim surprise.
Ha ha ha ha ha.
All Trump had to do to set us up for this dystopian fate was convince his base that the mainstream media lie nonstop; that the "Deep State" hates America and is out to get Trump and his followers; that Trump is a victim of a weaponized US Justice Department that is going after Trump before turning on his base; unleash hair-raising conspiracy theories to smear his enemies whether or not he was the one who hatched them; paint his critics as "the enemy from within;" and give his base common enemies such as criminal migrants and Nancy Pelosi.
Will Trump voters know or care when things turn out as predicted above?
I hope Kamala has some $$$ left over....we need TV ads constantly alerting "the masses" every time Trump, or someone in his cabinet does something really chilling.....an ad a week...kind of a scorecard on just what exactly they are doing.....it could help.
I have been questioning myself lately..... has anyone else thought maybe this is all happening for a reason and some good might actually come of it.... like maybe this will awaken enough entitled people to see how good we have it... that $3.50 gas and $4/dz eggs might be the price to pay for NOT batshit crazy everyday... or are we too far gone that only an unstoppable slide into oligarchic/theocratic ruin will do that, when it's too late???
The Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee should come to the obvious conclusion on the Ethics Committee Report on Gaetz that the Speaker does not want to release: that it's being suppressed because it confirms all the worst rumors. And they should state their conclusion loudly and frequently, before the official nomination, before any hearings, during any hearings, and on the floor of the Senate. History is watching, and taking notes.
By resigning his seat, Gaetz give the committee the opportunity to suppress the report on the arguments that is not normal to release such a report on someone who is not longer serving. It's a technicality, because Gaetz hasn't resigned from the upcoming term he just won reelection for. On the other hand, it's just like the GOP to cover the criminal actions of their own. After all they just elected a convicted criminal to the presidency. Shame on the supreme Court for failing to enforce Section 3.
I don't agree with stance on Bob Casey's effort to highlight the voter suppression efforts of GOP. Forgetting to put a date on the outside of an envelope shouldn't disqualify a vote. This nitpicking is an obvious voter suppression step implemented by Republicans. If this proves Casey would've won then it has to be called out. Surrendering meekly doesn't help to protect democracy.

Well, here is data from Stephen Spoonamore saying we need a ballot recount in swing states and Biden needs to approve it in 2 letters.

Is Margie in the running for CIA chief? Haven’t heard about those underwater lasers installed by BLM, but she’s on it!
She’s too busy harassing the one trans woman who won her election.
Stellar group of people we have representing us.
At least this time, Trump is not claiming he hires only the best people.

Not until it directly impacts their lives.

Nice shoutout to Robert Tracinski. He is a fine thinker and writer.
I hope Kamala has some $$$ left over....we need TV ads constantly alerting "the masses" every time Trump, or someone in his cabinet does something really chilling.....an ad a week...kind of a scorecard on just what exactly they are doing.....it could help.
She seems to have no money, based on the number of fund raising emails I've been getting every single day since the election ended
And how many of those emails are quickly deleted now.........
It's a good start. There are still lots of us willing to contribute. Gotta keep hammering them!
Nah, we’re beyond screwed.
If anyone wakes up, it’ll be after everything is utterly destroyed.
Fun time to be alive!
Don’t kid yourself. Prices are going to go up, too, and Trump will blame it on Democrats.

I'm putting this under the "Wouldn't it be nice IF...."
Elon and Vivek did a comprehensive review of government efficiency in the medical area and recommended a National Health Care System.
