Here’s the deal, people. We can’t wait around for someone else to step up. Each of us has to get off the sidelines and get in the game. Run for a local office, go to local government meetings and speak up, volunteer for a campaign. Do something. It’s ok to bitch and moan, but if that’s all we do, we are doomed. Let’s stand up for our values and our country!

Very much agree with you. The best thing I did with my despair in the aftermath of the 2016 election was volunteer for a start-up committee on traffic and pedestrian safety started by my local community council. I now devote a good deal of my time to public service at the grassiest of grass roots levels -- my neighborhood. That led to advocating for the issues that most concern me with city officials, expanding my circle of influence.

Small but meaningful steps to improve the quality of life in the place where I live: it's what I can do to improve this corner of the world. I'm sure there are many more people doing the same, everywhere.
