Trump's depravity in the recent Ukraine "negotiations" is so shocking that it defies description and in the history of moral betrayal knows no historical precedent. I would compare Trump's conduct in what is now the US betrayal of Ukraine to Neville Chamberlain's appeasement of Hitler in 1938, but that would be grossly unfair to Chamberlain. Chamberlain was obsessed with avoiding a terrible war, so much so that he apparently convinced himself that he could negotiate with Hitler as if Hitler was a normal head of state (and not the demonic maniac that he actually was). Chamberlain attempted appeasement but he did not betray Great Britain's honor by making it into a de-facto ally of The Third Reich. At least Chamberlain did not regard Hitler as a kindred spirit. Trump is making us into a de-facto ally of Putin's Russia.
What can we do? I propose this: Until our Nation's government returns to at least trying to be a light to the world and a city on a hill, then along with flying the American Flag, I will also fly the Ukrainian flag in solidarity for those who fight and suffer for the values that our country should be but is now no longer representing. Is there an organization that sells Ukrainian flags and then sends the proceeds to help our brothers and sisters in Ukraine? We also need to have protest marches for Ukraine with thousands of Ukrainian flags. Ukraine's struggle is now our struggle. We are all Ukrainians now.
