Nancy Mace is the polite society version of Lauren Boebert. Absolutely no contribution to governing, just looking for any attention she can get.

And we may see Boebert back next year, though thankfully not representing my district. The DNC would do the whole country a favor if they would dump a few bucks into CD 4 reminding the voters *exactly* why her name is so familiar…

Hopefully your district sends Adam Frisch to Congress next year.

Expand full comment

He could win but he would be winning in CD-3 which is where Boebert used to be. It was a shrewd move for Boebert to leave. She was less than 50/50 of winning re-election now she is 95%+ to win again in CD-4. And Frisch is still competitive but less dominant against a more traditional Republican since the district got redrawn.

I do understand that. And you are right- it was a shrewd move. She is not smart enough to have thought that through; she has a lot of help.

And I have to say that even the more “traditional” R, Jeff Hurd, seems to have fallen under, or willingly entered, the MAGA bus. There are a lot of good people in this area- I’ve lived here for decades- and they are thinking hard. Adam Frisch is not exactly anyone’s wet dream of a candidate, but he is a good person. That comes through, and it may well be enough. As a community, we have endured an enormous amount of fallout from Trumpism, no matter your affiliation.

We are agricultural- ranchers, farmers. We are recreational- mountain bikers, skiers, hikers, river runners, hunters. We have a huge energy production history- uranium, (which may be having a comeback), oil, oil shale, natural gas.

There is a huge movement toward conservation- water is an enormous issue.

It’s complicated. People are looking for some leadership on these concerns - and they are difficult to navigate.

I have yet to see a current Republican who even has full working knowledge of the whole array of concern. We have had a few brilliant R’s in our past.

Now that performance and news hits seem to be more important that actual substance, consideration, and thoughtful problem-solving, many citizens of our communities are thinking hard about what they want. And need.

The R’s got nuthin’ to bring to the table.

Apologies- a rant long withheld.

I was just surprised she made a move that benefited her and her party. Obviously she didn't care about the party but she knew her prior district wasn't the same when she won originally.

Honestly, I could care less about the hand job at the play...they charge so much for those shows that I'm surprised it didn't come with it. But she's the one that courted the mountain "values" types so she knew that it turned off some of her voters. So switching to Douglas County and the super-Trumpy small counties outside of it was smart because her name recognition is enough to win against several other opponents and the general is 60-40 so she probably will win by a smaller margin but easily win.

They would've had to covertly back a Republican challenger in the primary and would've had to have done so a while ago. Now it looks like she will win easily the primary which ensures a win in November since no Democrat could win that district as it is drawn now.

As far as I know Mace had not been caught having sexual acts in public like Boebert. The bar is low for the GOP I must add.

Scott Perry was my battalion commander in Iraq 2009-10. I worked in his headquarters for several months. He is tireless and was a good commander but since Trump he has been horrible. I talked to him recently and he said “name one thing I did wrong on January 6.” My answer will surely end our relationship. I believe he is guilty of treason.

Honor. Such a foreign concept in Trump World. Never discussed in news media these days. Or Right and Wrong. Or integrity. Or trustworthiness.

Four years ago I went with a friend to Nancy Mace’s office in Beaufort to deliver a petition in support of the Voting Rights act. We were shocked when the staffer (completely unprovoked) told us how much they all hated Mace and missed both Joe Cunningham and Mark Sanford. The staffer said that both of them had treated staff with respect while Mace was just demanding and rude. So I wasn’t surprise when all of the bad press came out regarding her treatment of staff. She has no moral compass. She’s just a self promoter. Hopefully her district will send her back to being a private citizen.

Why re-inflict her on her district? Just because they were stupid enough to elect her once? OK, maybe that is a sufficient reason.

I grew up in that district. It's a weird district, and in some ways more like FL than other places. There are several huge retirement communities that attract tons of elderly transplants there for the sunshine and low taxes.

Culturally it's kind of different (think more Savannah/Charleston than Alabama). People really pride themselves on hospitality and politesse, tourism is huge for the economy . But I think all the southward migration to the area has sort diminished this effect in politics.

I don't go back to often. It's depressing to me to see large tracks of my childhood paved over in order to replicate New Jersey.
