11.000 religious right wing craziest doesn't sound like much of a threat. "Buying some land and having a basket full of "uns" does though. Whose going to pay for all those kids? Yep, we are. Miss Lake is so full of crap, that God she lost. Do you think those 11,000 were the ones that bought Trump's digital trading cards?
I find it interesting that Bennie Johnson plays a video to "trigger the libs" when in fact most of the libs will never see it and be triggered.
Clearly these guys are just performing for each other but the rich donor play money and the speaker fees just keep rolling in.
I suppose Kari Lake was the entertainment and Tucker was there to add gravitas to the event.
All of these "conservative" events have devolved into performance art pieces designed to entertain fans--- not make converts.
I can even remember, not so long ago, when CPAC was a fairly serious affair with some actual political and intellectual heavyweights. That ship has certainly sailed.
Tim, you seem like a hail-fellow-well-met kind of guy. But hanging out at the bar talking to these people must really rub up against the limit of your fellowship.
Another phenomenally well written piece. I don't think I'd really noticed the outstanding prose that Miller is capable of until I got through the introduction of Why We Did It.
In terms of the content of this piece, I'm currently reading a Higher Call which is primarily an account of WII from the perspective of an extraordinary Luftwaffe fighter pilot.
For those not familiar with the relationship of the German Airforce during the war and the Nazi Partyl, well almost to a man (with the exception of Göring whom they despised) the Luftwaffe was brazenly hostile to The Party (as it was known in Germany). So the book is ultimately written from the perspective of someone hostile to the Nazi party who nonetheless bitterly witnessed The Party slowly take over the country through lies, intimidation, scapegoating of minorities, and through outright thuggery despite never commanding popular support.
I know the popular edict that those who bring up comparisons to Nazis and Hitler in contemporary events have already lost the argument, but the parallels between the rhetoric described in this piece and tactics and rhetoric that disgusted this pilot as a fellow outsider are stunning.
Great piece, Tim. I’ve gotta say you have courage for going there. And a super-strong liver….I’m now reading “How We Did It” and can already see your strength. We’ll done!
Was Party Rock really from 2011? Fuck, I'm old.
What an incredible blend of superb investigative journalism, trenchant insight and humor. You’re killing it.
But I have to say, it annoys the f*** out of me that James O’Keefe might actually be able to dance.
Byron Donalds is from Florida. I guess the bourbon was good.

Jesus. This all makes me queasy, but I’m glad to know what happened. Thank you for tolerating this on our behalf.

God, land, family and Bennie Johnson. Fits on a bumper sticker.
I don't wanna be a snowflake but how about a trigger warning before the link to that Turkey video? Cuz that shit was messed up.

Exhausting and dispiriting🙁

Thank you Time Miller. Wow, you have courage to wade into this cult.
Thank you for covering this. I think you deserve combat pay.
More of Miller’s top notch writing- thanks for a deliciously insightful report.
