Gish galloped..the latest lefty talking point that nobody every heard of until six minutes ago. A life preserver as much as a talking point. Oh what are we going to say when the world finally has to admit Joe has dementia? Oh, Gish galloping. The other guy talked all the way through his allotted two minutes and Joe was not sentient enough to rebut.

Nobody except social science and poli sci majors and those of us who have read a book since college and debaters and teachers and English majors and a lot of other people and it’s surprising how many people want to parade their shortcomings in the public square, amirite?

And it is most certainly *not* leftist🙄

poli sci majors? Golly. Poli sci majors. Heh.

Yet you have no issues with trump’s obvious signs of mental decline?

Expand full comment

I’ve never seen any.

Expand full comment

Seriously? You are definitely a magat if you can't see and hear his slurred words, incomplete, trailed off thoughts, the way he stands leaning forward, the way he goes off into bizarre tangents, etc.

Expand full comment

He will stand firm 90 minutes and riff. It’s remarkable.

Expand full comment

It is the same fire hose of lies over and over again. Hardly a riff.

Expand full comment

Leaning forward is a sign of mental decline? Never heard that one. Bizarre tangents. He's riffing. Stream of consciousness. We love it.

I am talking about the fire hose of lies. Yes, we know you love the lies and care nothing about facts. I said nothing about leaning forward. You are so afflicted with TDS you cannot keep track of who you are talking to. But since you brought it up, yes, changes in posture beginning with leaning forward and gradually becoming more stooped is a sign of dementia and alzheimers, especially when posture changes are unexplained by neuropathy, arthritis, injury, etc..

You present as a bad faith MAGA troll If Biden were "riffing" you would be lobbying for an intervention, not loving it.

The inescapable fact is that Trump is a seditious, cognitively impaired, convicted felon running on being a retributive autocrat. All patriots oppose Trump.

Trump riffs.

Would you prefer I frame it as a “firehose of falsehoods”? Either way, it works out to the same thing. One guy spewing lie after lie after lie while the other guy tries to figure out what to attempt to debunk first. I’ve faced people like this before and even at my best performance, I’ve struggled. And I’m half Joes age.

and yet amazingly enough the msmedia and pundits have devoted very little time to the (gish gallop) tons of sh*t lying that trump was allowed to get away with. I am so hoping Lincoln project and other PACs use the content from trumps debate answers to decimate him in future commercials and they need to get going on social media also. Easy to talk 2 minutes if you are repeating the same answers regardless of the question you were asked - and CNN let him get away with that too.

I’m old enough to remember when Joe Biden said he didn’t lose any service members since he became president.

Expand full comment

And I'm old enough to remember when Trump said that in some states they're allowed to take newborn babies put them aside and decide whether to murder them or not. I'm also old enough to have been told by people in my lovely Republican neighborhood that abortions wouldn't be necessary if women would just keep their legs together. This is from a supposedly nice person. And a Christian. So at this point my opinion is that just like abortion, This is a decision that should be made between the person involved and the ones who know his health situation the best. And then the rest of us just have to suck it up and prevent Trump from becoming president. However, we need to do it.

Expand full comment

Governor Northam said he wanted that for Virginia. Moreover, at least a few states have turned down laws that would have required medical attention for children who survive abortion. So, what Trump said was essentially true.

Expand full comment

We're not talking about a fetus who survives a late term abortion. I'm talking about the ridiculous idea that people have 9 month abortions just because they don't feel like having the kid and they were too lazy to get it done earlier

Expand full comment

Except, that’s not what he said. He said that there are some states that want to allow for survivors of abortion not to get medical attention and to be left to die. And this happens to be true.

Expand full comment

If you don't like that example you could pick any number of other lies that he told during the debate, so we're basically arguing liar versus a person who can't remember. Sorry, I know which one I'd rather have. You can always be reminded but you can't fix a liar

Expand full comment

Biden‘s first answer was a lie, about the unemployment rate when he became president.

Expand full comment

Remember the one of the rules was that neither candidate would have notes. It is not surprising that some of his facts and figures might be a little off. Trump didn't need notes because he was not the least concerned about even being in the ballpark.

Expand full comment

Well he said something that wasn't accurate. so was it a lie or a mistake? I mean is he forgetful or a deliberate liar? Or you just going to pick one or the other depending on what you want to prove? The other thing I'm old enough to know is that I'm not stupid, but I no longer have the ability to remember facts and figures off the top of my head, especially in the kind of circumstance he was in the pressure of being under the spotlight and probably worrying and wondering when Trump was going to bring up one or both of his sons with his deceitful crap.

Expand full comment

I think that’s a completely sensible statement. Thought spy to both of them. On the other hand as bad, certain things Joe knows are false (good people on both sides, for instance).

Expand full comment

Well, I'd have to go re-listen to it in order to confirm that that's what he said and I have no intention of doing that

Northam is a pediatric neurologist and we all know what he said and meant unless we are, I don’t know, Opus Dei or Samuel Alito.

Babies who could not be saved would be kept comfortable from birth until their death.

That happens often. Mothers and fathers have photos taken of their babies posthumously because there was so little time. Babies in unbelievable agony are kept warm, and cuddled, until they pass away. Babies with no brains are held by their mothers and kissed until they die.

That’s what Northam said. He just talks like a doctor.

Gish gallop was coined in the 1990s.

And you learned about it six minutes ago.

People who followed debates over climate change knew it then. That's where it came from. If you didn't follow the climate debate, it's probably new to you.

Expand full comment

Wrong. It's literally named after Duane Gish, a young earth creationist. It was from creationism vs evolution, not climate change debates.

The idea that it is impossible to counteract is pure, absurd cope though. There are plenty of ways to counteract it! Biden did in 2020!

Write a chapter about it three books ago (Global Warming is Real and it’s a Good Thing)

No, I learned about it in the 1990s.
