What meeting with a world leader would one be constrained to 2 minute segments in which to attempt to set out as many talking points as one can before time runs out and your mic is cut off? I will go out on a limb and guess zero. Any leader on a phone call or in a physical meeting with another world leader will have both notes and a support staff to flesh out anything that might arise.

If one actually reads the transcript from the debate and removes Donny’s bombast and babbling lies, it’s actually remarkable how much normal shit Joe said throughout the night. Seth Abramson did just that for his substack yesterday and I was surprised that Joe had actually gotten that much out of his mouth hole on Thursday night. I agree with this. It's not just better on reading the transcript. I have heard some of the answers replayed audio only, and the impact is quite different. If it weren't for the absolutely dreadful confusion/misfire where he suddenly leapt from discussing abortion to the murder of a woman by a migrant, I would be far less alarmed. And the terrible performance on the rehearsed 2 minute closer was very discouraging. Nonetheless, I am worried about both the political repercussions and the fact that it's not just about getting to the election; it's his ability to function well for four more years, which is something I am 100 percent confident that Trump can't do.

It’s funny how little we think about those who will surround a POTUS before that person takes office. I have total faith that if Joe wins, the country will be fine, we will move along in relatively the same direction as before and if it gets bad, those around Joe will be able to convince him to retire and Kamala - who, lest we forget, has been by his side for the last 4 years - and the rest of the team they’ve assembled should be able to continue the mission just fine.

Meanwhile, you’ve got Donny who burned through 44 senior staff in his first term and by the end was left with little but xenophobes who were blindly loyal to him, not America or the Constitution. Who do ya think will be staffing the White House if he wins in 2024? Project 2025 is 800 pages long and worth reading every word of because it’s terrifying af and if he’s given an opportunity to implement even a quarter of it, this country will be irreparably changed forever.

That’s the choice in November. There is no one who is going to ride in on a magic carpet, throw some pixie dust around or wave a wand to make any of this change. There’s no mechanism to force Joe out and the only person who can use the $ he’s raised is Kamala. And while I personally think she’s grown and matured in the last 4 years, one would be hard pressed to find many kind words about her outside of Black Twitter.

Happy Sunday?
