I watch news on NHK World nearly every day. (NHK is Japan's national broadcaster, and NHK World is their international English-language service. Here in Maryland, we can watch it free over the air via Maryland Public Television.) It will be very interesting to see how and whether they report on this. So far, there is nothing on the website, and there is no "breaking news" chyron on the live broadcast. Maybe they will choose to ignore China's provocation.

The last few days, coverage has been dominated by the Myanmar earthquake, the arrival of peak cherry blossoms, and the Trump story du jour.

They're not talking about this story at NHK World. The only China story is Beijing's announcement of more threatening military exercises near Taiwan. The biggest US-related story is that PM Ishiba is asking Trump to exempt Japan from auto tariffs, given that Japan is the biggest foreign investor in the US.
