Is there a way to turn off these subtitles?
Hover your cursor over the video screen and click on the "cc" (closed captions) button. You can turn off that way.
No, that CC button toggles on and off a whole different set of captions. I am not sure why my videos default to this odd caption stream. Maybe it's a substack setting I can't find.
