1) “Trump’s Latest Lies About His Lies” – example #10487 (but who’s counting). But the truly sad/infuriating part is that to the vast majority of Trumplicants it doesn’t matter at all that he lied (and the lie is easily proven by extant press reports or even video evidence in many cases). 2) Let’s just hope that Biden makes a big deal of Trump’s “suckers and losers” comment. And then let’s really hope that Kelly is willing to publicly rebuke Trump when he inevitably lies about saying it.
3) There’s another aspect of this that I have always wondered about. In an interview with George Stephanopoulos shortly after the 2016 Democratic convention at which Khazr Khan said to Trump “you have not make any sacrifices”, Trump was asked if he had indeed made any sacrifices. Trump’s answer was (more or less) this: “Yes, I have made sacrifices in building my businesses.” So here is someone comparing the personal sacrifices that they made in, basically, just being an adult to the sacrifices made by those Gold Star families. That remark seemed almost blasphemous to me. What I never understood is why the Clinton campaign didn’t make more of that. Because clearly Trump doesn’t really understand the true meaning of sacrifice.
4) Of course, Trump is going to call those killed in service to their country “suckers and losers”. For the same reason that he initially refused to call McCain a hero (and even when he eventually did, it was the most half-hearted statement ever made). It’s because they have achieved a degree of true honor and respect that he knows that he will never, ever achieve. And he can’t stand that. So he has to attack the very thing that gives them that honor and respect. He can’t raise himself up so he has to try to tear them down.
I doubt he made many sacrifices in his business - he lied, got others to finance him, sued people he didn't want to pay, got slaps on the wrist for things people not named Trump would have been severely fined and/or disciplined, etc.
A few comments...
