Regarding the A.B. article:

I did twitch a little when I read that “jail time helps Trump”.

Yes, if by “helps Trump” you mean our usual definition for Trump being helped: All of us staring, fitfully, fretfully, at Biden’s polls, doomscrolling at all the articles that say “here’s why that’s bad for Biden”, willing all the voters to “come to their senses”, wondering why the voters don’t come to their senses NOW, wringing our hands in our customary way and saying “What shall we do? WHAT SHALL WE DO??”

A jail sentence, if delivered, will not revolutionize the polls overnight. It will not suddenly make swing state voters sane. It will not make Biden look Gavin Newsom-young or full of Austin Powers-mojo.

What it will do is raise the stakes, and pose the ultimate question to voters for the long term as to whether they want the most powerful man on Earth to be a sprung, vengeful, criminal jailbird.

I suppose that’s “helping Trump” by the narrowest, shallowest of usual definitions. By sober reflection, it’s the opposite.

Trump is a criminal. Jail time underlines that he is a criminal.

P.S.: Apropos, Sarah Longwell said Friday “You can’t roll up your sleeves when you’re wringing your hands like this.” Wise words.

I think that those who are pushing for Biden to pardon Trump and Hunter are idiots. Talk about putting a band-aid on a gushing chest wound...
