“Now if he wins, it would seem to be because of the lies and hatred.”

What a statement on the American electorate. And one that JVL has made for several months. Talk about depressing. The voters want this.

The men that Bill mentions, they are neither good nor great. They are abject cowards, to include W.

The NYT had a piece yesterday that quoted various “undecided” voters, about half of them Black. Half of the Black voters said they didn’t like Harris for reasons that varied from “she’s a liar” to “what has she done for Black people” to “she’s a woman”. The Black men were the most likely to say they wouldn’t vote for Harris because she’s a woman.

NPR has aired several interviews with similar sentiments expressed.

Only those "voters want this" who are part of the man bites dog story, which is what media look for as the equivalent of "click-bait".

I disagree, plenty of people know everything about him and they simply don’t care. Recent analysis suggests Trump’s recent rise in polls is due to hesitant Republicans going back to Trump. At this point, what do they not know? They know everything, but still want this.

His MAGA nuts who have drunk the Kool-aid, sure. Your comment means that ALL voters want this. I disagree strongly. Generalizations about people are often wrong because they put people all in the same boat.

Dude obviously it’s not ALL VOTERS

Did I really need to specify that considering half the country is going to vote against him? But OBVIOUSLY the people that vote for him DO want this. There is little doubt of that fact.

No way half of the country will vote for him, no matter what he said, says or will say about the vote. I would have added "dude" at the end, but, other than male, I'm not sure what it connotates, so I will leave it out.

I think you can comfortably round 47% up to half when making that kind of statement. It feels like you're just desperately trying to convince yourself the US isn't pretty much half deplorable and are using semantics to barely hold on to that belief.

Your posting name makes me wonder who is behind it, as it sounds like a perfect fit for the MAGAnuts who have no clue what it has taken over the past 250 years to be a True American. For example, I wonder how they square their beliefs with the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, or the plaque on the Statue of Liberty....

You're overanalyzing the name. It has been made clear to me that I'm not a "Real American" therefore I must be a fake one. I'm simply owning it.

Along those lines I think that being on the outside looking in when it comes to "Americaness" has helped me see much more clearly what America has been truly about and where things have been headed. I've certainly been much more correct in my assumptions than the people who blew off all the Republican BS during Obama's Presidency and Trump's nomination and early Presidency. People can spout BS about all our liberal democratic freedoms, the Constitution, and the plaque on the Statue of Liberty all they want but that is clearly not what most of the people give a damn about and they have proven it over and over again. Consequently it gives the lie to America as this shining city on the hill. It is definitively not special in any way other than geographic security, wealth and the military power projection those things enable for now.

Are there pockets of people who actually believe America embodies that liberal democratic stuff? Yes, but they are clearly not near a majority and don't, as a group, seem to have any real inclination to work towards increasing their odds of retaining power long term. They mostly seem to assume it will all work itself out because they can't bear to think about what it will imply about their beliefs in America if it doesn't. It is unfortunate that the refusal to come to terms with that is making things less likely to turn out well.

You want to get into semantics that 48% of the electorate will vote for him instead of half the country, fine. But the idea that y statement was in any way a generalization of the ant group of people besides is voters is a failure of reading comprehension on your part.

I have no need to continue a discourse with someone who feels insulting the other party is part of the game. End.

No, you intentionally misrepresented what I said and accused me of generalizing. Your reading comprehension problems are yours alone. Next time, feel free to keep scrolling, your comment won’t be missed.
