Maybe it just resonated with those of us with grey hair? Or is it just the younger generation (reviewers) just HAVING TO put down an icon to show how cool they are (remember people dissing Billy Joel?)?
The shear number of comedians in it was fun to see (Bill Burr as JFK? Letting his Boston accent fly!
Hilarious).
(Loved the PCU shout out, BTW. One of favorite all time comedies)
LOVED "Unfrosted"!!! We were planning to watch it based on a friend's recommendation anyway, but I sent your review to the friend so she would know not everyone disliked it. I loved all the callbacks to earlier tv shows, commercials, movies....heck even to Jan 6th. Great shots, including the shot of the Pop Tart successfully launching from the toaster. The acting was great. The little girl from the dumpster - instant star! Definitely will be recommending it to people!! Not sure exactly why people don't like it, but that is why they make a wide variety of movies.
Wife and I loved it too. We are in our 70s so the visual recreation of the colors and styles of the 50s and 60s worked like a charm on us. If I compare it to Barbie - this worked better for us. I suspect that the audience for this skews older. Again, visually fabulous and the jokes were funny too.
Sorry, but this comedic farce just fell flat with my wife & I. We did not even finish it. I think the reason the general public will give this the thumbs down is due to very high expectations that were not met - not even close. When you have people who are considered at the top of their game like Seinfeld & Gaffigan, their performances are a huge letdown. This is really corn ball. It doesn't even meet the standards of something like "American Pie" or "Meet the Fokkers" etc. etc. It is like an adult cartoon that doesn't even entertain the kids, much less the adults. I think they were all trying too hard. So sad.
I just don’t think it was my kind of comedy. Seinfeld and Larry David have a kind of cynical, observative comedy that can be corny at times, but witty enough to carry it through. I thought this movie was all corny and not much witty.
The script seemed all over the place, attempting to bounce from joke to joke- like a punchline without the setup.
I guess it just wasn’t for me. I’m glad some people liked it, though. I’m a big Seinfeld fan.
I laughed more at Unfrosted than anything else in a long time. I started it rather late in the evening after finding it on Netflix (Oh yea, this…). It was easy enough to stop watching half way through and pick up again the following night and found it to be just as funny. I can see myself watching this again, although not in the near term.
My spouse and I laughed at a lot of Unfrosted. It was a kick to see Seinfeld's friends in it, the cereal funeral was a stitch, and bringing in Don and Roger from MadMen was genius. We're old enough to get the references and jokes. A younger audience may miss most of that.
Last night I cranked up Netflix for the first time in a long time. I chose “Unfrosted” to see what all the hoohaw was about, and I loved it. Not “Crying Game” or “Airplane” loved, but it was close enough. I was wondering what you thought of it, and, voila!, here you are this morning agreeing with me! Thanks a bunch, Sonny!
I liked 'Unfrosted 'and think Sonny's theory may ultimately be right.
Watching 'Seinfeld' back in the day was part of my husband and my 'come home from work' routine. When I occasionally view a rerun, I can remember the old magic but some of the reruns didn't age well.
As far as Seinfeld the Man - He seems to me like he has devolved into a "Get Off My Yard" type - or maybe he always was. Saw one of his stand-ups and it seemed more cranky than funny. AND I thought he was a rude guest on John Mulaney's first Netflix livestream - 'Everybody is in L.A." Seinfeld had this constant "What the H am I doing here schtick?" I thought it was neither gracious nor supportive. AND then to find out later that he was there, most likely, to pitch "Unfrosted" but he apparently felt compelled to act like he was doing Mulaney a favor somehow. I didn't like it.
Sorry, Sonny, quite off the mark here. It was just a bad movie, unfunny, stupid, ponderous. If this should ever become a 'cult classic', then the modern movie goer's funny bone has gone the way of the appendix, vestigial and useless.
I had not heard about the iPad ad. Just watched it. OH MY GAWD!!! the poor little yellow ball thing crushed at the end.... "I swear to God, Herb, I thought turkeys could fly." swing and big miss!
Unfrosted was grrrreat!

loved the Mad Men tie-in!
Agree, Max. We loved it. Some of the best bits may be lost on current gen

Sonny: I agree with your review. I saw it the day it was released and loved it . Sorry you describe so many of the set-ups
Can you add: SPOILER ALERT to this post? It needs it

this is also what people thought of zoolander at first and yet
It's a real coin flip whether Unfrosted or the Apple iPad ad had a more over-torqued internet brain reaction this week.
Apple should do an ad where they crush all the people who hate Unfrosted.
