Romney is a spineless, gutless, pathetic coward. In this moment, his cult like devotion to “Democrats are always worse” is shameful and I call it traitorous. I have moved from being as middle of the road independent as they come, looking for reasonable common sense solutions always, to someone who will NEVER vote for a Republican again for the rest of my 71 year old life. Why??? BECAUSE of Trump and Romney’s party worshipping at the MAGA altar, and spewing lie after lie day after day with no moral compunction whatsoever, and calling evil, good and wrong, right.
Listen to Liz Cheney’s speech the other day and really every day since January 6. If a crucial mass of R’s had followed her, we would not be in this mess.
I am SICK of Romney, Pence, George W, and all the rest of these cowards who think they can finesse this, and protect for themselves—what? Not getting yelled at or shunned at the country club or the boardroom or the Federalist Society meeting?????? Or thinking they will be the “revered elder statesman” of a party that whose leader is DJT, or Don, Jr., or who knows what other perverse or evil human?
Liz has it right. Look to history!!!!! Show some moral courage. Where were you when the evil came? Pretending and pontificating? It IS our “time of testing.” Will we “meet the moment?” Not Romney or his pathetic type. When Trump is gone, these pitiful men—and women—but especially the men like Romney, Pence and Bush, will be judged harshly by history. And do not get me started on McConnell, Graham and the rest. I am convinced they all will be weighed in the scales of history and found wanting . “Their dishonor will remain!!”
Sorry to be so angry, but this column set me off. These “leaders” disgust me. Anyone with half a brain can see the existential danger of Trump 2024. Shame on them.
Here is what I would ask *all* of the former Republicans who see the horror of Trump but continue to hold *any* level of distaste for voting for Democrats (including, by the way, voting for one "this time"): If you were *this* wrong about so many people in your former party, isn't it possible you were wrong about your opinion of Democrats in many other ways?
So when George Will says he thinks the best thing would be for Harris to win but be controlled by a Republican Senate, I really have to wonder why he thinks that given the character of a majority of that majority.
One might argue that this could have happened to the Democratic Party too, to which I say "Perhaps, but it didn't."
I understand your point of view and feelings here and think they are well reasoned and expressed, but to me this situation boils down to one thing which everyone needs to learn in early life, “You can’t have it both ways”. Even young animals all have to learn it. Of course cleverer ones like crows do figure out ways to finesse a few of these elementary dilemmas. But even here, the exception proves the rule. “You can’t have it both ways.” Liz Cheney understands and applies this clearly. A breath of clean, fresh air to everyone whose life also depends upon truthfulness. What power does this ensure in human life? Sometimes not much; in fact it is the path to trouble in many human contexts. Witness Jesus. Such irony in how the religious ideology and power structure upon this story fails to get this point. There is a basic distinction between truth and power—and this kind of power includes safety. And inevitably one will have to choose between them, clearly and definitely. You can’t have it both ways. And your spiritual, or innate, or real integrity and connection depends upon it, and all the rest of your life and what you will be able to do. The clever mind of a crow, or a Romney or many others who are silent, compromised and duplicitous, persuades itself it can have it both ways, but then the watchful hawk swoops down.
Don't feel bad Rick, I had to comment on the issue I knew I could keep the 'F' bombs out of. I couldn't begin to write coherently on f'ing Trump giving f'ing COVID tests to f'ing Putin.

Yes, Romney, Bush, etc., all complicit.

Rick - angry is good look for you, my friend! You expressed it well and honestly 😊
