I'm a boomer who threw away her vote after Ralph Nader during the Bush-Gore election because Patti Smith said so. Dylan's decision was more informed than that. As long as he stays curious & engaged, he's no-one to denigrate.

I threw my vote away on Nader in the Bush/Gore election, too, for similar reasons. Would never do something like that again (now I hold my nose and vote for the best option) but I was young and it felt like the right and тАЬedgyтАЭ thing to do at the time. As long as you stay engaged and *reflect on your decisions* you learn not to waste your vote.

Agree. Doesn't anyone remember their existential angst of late teens/early 20s? No boomer ever wasted a vote on a 3rd party candidate that would never win? Me too Mary Christine on voting for Nader! Checking out of politics (and religion, etc) at that age is pretty typical. None of us at 50yrs old or 60, etc are exactly the same as we were when we were 20yrs old.

48 year old here ... first vote was for Perot because I felt cool voting third party. And that was about the depth of my consideration.
