After studying this for a while (and I’m an amateur military historian, I always defer to men who have been and have led men in combat, they know more than I do). But lately I’ve been licking my chops for Russia to target a NATO country. I have to digress for a moment: many of us don’t seem to give a damn about Finland and Sweden joining NATO. But I’m telling you this is HUGE! Id love to talk about the Winter war the Soviets fought against the Finns in 1939-40. I could go on but I’ll bore you with all the history. Back to attacking NATO, I’m drawn to the example of the Romans in the first battle scene in “Gladiator.” If the Russians were to attack NATO, we would UNLEASH HELL, assuming we had the will to do so, and it wouldn’t end well for them.
Oh, good grief. EVERYBODY is writing a book. Jared Kushner has a book out now, too. Meanwhile publishers, won't give the time of day to talented writers who might actually have something worthwhile to say. Name recognition is key today.
Maybe I'm slow, BUT, just what is it about modern life that men of a politically "conservative" (I used the term loosely) find so emasculating? Is it the fact that a biracial man was elected to the highest elected office in the country in 2008? Is it the fact that more college graduates are women than men (women just want it more, it seems)? Is it the fact that after a decade and a half of useless drivel on the E Channel, the Kardashians scammed Hulu into another reality show?
Maybe I'm being mean, but, if you are feeling less manly, perhaps you should get your testosterone levels checked...seriously. Maybe modern life is not seeking to emasculate you. MAYBE you are just aging and your hormones are dropping. Just a thought...
Re college and women - there are now more WOMEN veterinarian students than men. And a lot of them are going into large animal (you know - cows, bulls, steers, horses) practices. Seems a lot of men don't want to deal with real "men" like 1700lb bulls. When I was in HS in the 60s, that's what a girlfriend wanted to do, and I was surprised. I lost track of her, but I hope she made it.
Publishing a book with the title "Manhood" was a wide open invitation for put-downs. It's a bit like if I wrote a book called "The Supermodel's Handbook."
The words “masculine virtues” and “Josh Hawley” could not be further away from each other in meaning in any language under the sun. The raised fist was parody. The book title and author are antithetical.
Trump, with his makeup, teased and sprayed hair, his childish food preferences , fear and loathing of women (he's never had one he didn't buy) and his perpetual whining and lack of any skills, he's the antithesis of manliness. Big sissy girly man.
The Sandy Hook lawsuit is Yuge to me. Its a Big Fing deal. Only a monster's heart would not hurt once mind falls upon such an event. To me, these youtube videos that wind over the same conspiracy theory are the biggest threat to our society and culture. We are a culture of not just freedom. We are a culture of knowledge. This is why many of the sickest mass shooters attack schools. The families are representing the Love of their children. For this society benefits from their fight. A benefit of what is and isn't knowledge. What is and isn't true. And what is and isn't American. To the families of Sandy Hook, I respect your loss, and Thank you for your Love.
We would 100% sweep the Black Sea if we wanted to. This would bring inflation down substantially and, you know, NOT starve a whole bunch of countries. The problem is that the *voters* in this country don't understand foreign policy and don't have the guts for an easy win because they're shook of Putin's nukes and they don't trust the Pentagon after fucking up for the last 20 years.
Pentagon did this to themselves by signing onto unwinnable political goals in combat after 9/11 and not holding any of its officer corps who made operational failures accountable (they usually get an end of tour award and a promotion instead of a letter of reprimand and/or demotion). This is the officer corps not cleaning up its own mess and now the public doesn't trust them to police themselves, just like with the cops. America's warrior class leadership needs a serious look in the mirror.
On the GOP fetish for masculinity, one t-shirt being sold by a vendor on the Mall on January 6, 2021 featured Trump in a cowboy hat, screaming and firing a long gun in the viewer's general direction. It was captioned, "You tell em I'm coming, and America's coming with me."
There is a lot more to worry about than GOP games in Congress. I hate to take a position against Christians, but we are gonna have to fight for separation of church & state. Dobbs was just the beginning. Trump is smoke & mirrors compared to what some are working for.
I think the "Christian" hold in the country is vastly overrated. Most Christians belong to the mainstream churches, and those folks aren't the evangelicals that think Trump is the second coming of Christ.
I hear you. My theory is that publicly they will say things like 'the left hates everything we stand for - family, working hard, guns, and freedom' & other things people in mainstream churches can identify with. But in action, they will work for the goals of groups behind the money they receive, goals like stripping right to abortion, same sex marriage, and contraception as medication. They won't campaign on these things, but they will work for it.
I know that Liz Cheney is f+cked if she wants to ever run for office as GOP or as a Democrat. But really? In my heart I believe that if Liz runs for President 2024? She's winning. Who's with me?

Reading the blurb about Hawley's book made me spew coffee all over my computer.
Could you explain why passing the climate bill will prevent passing the bill to protect same sex marriage?
Also, I can't believe the Republicans would not vote for the Veterens health care bill that they already voted for.
Cruelty and owning the libs - that's all they care about.

LOL! And me!

God, I so love it when The Bulwark pundits dunk on National Review.

"America needs Josh Hawley's Manhood!" is a phrase both hilarious and disgusting in competing quantities. Heh. Gross. 😄
I don't think Senator Hawley would know anything about the subject of his book.

I think it was more a failure of Bush than the military, though I'm sure the upper brass also had a part.

You should read Tim’s piece today. Brilliant. She ain’t winning.
