I'm sorry to be a contrarian, but PLEASE, NOT another podcast! The concept of the Gen Z perspective is useful, but if you could distill your chat into a 1000-word newsletter, it would take 25% of the time to get the meat without the fat. (Reading the speech to text transcript is not a solution. I've tried, and they're often hard to follow who is speaking--and I still have to wade through the chit-chat to find the beef.) I applaud Tim's instinct to explore this cohort, just not the medium.

I think the AI transcript creator needs to be upgraded. I’m surprised that this one is so limited. Maybe it’s Substack vs. The Bulwark as I see the same thing on other Substacks.

I’ve used a few AI transcript creators for work that do a better job of breaking the text by speaker. It usually takes just a couple of minutes to replace “Speaker 1” with the speaker name. Then a spellcheck and a review for the errors and the transcripts could be great.

I guess for those who really want to read the transcript you could cut and paste it into another application to quickly clean it up.

I think part of the point is connecting with younger people and Gen Z is more likely to watch a video than read an article.

To a certain extent, the medium IS the message. Much of Gen Z is into long form content that is not necessarily tightly organized. To really understand what makes people tick (especially those who seem to hold really weird views) takes extended periods of time. Joe Rogan is a representative example of this. Besides, it's become clear that any future Dem candidate needs to be able to roll long-form with the bros and other influencers.

Interesting perspective. I wouldn’t have thought of this but can see it. Then again, I’m retired and my time is 100% my own.

Hi, Susan--I'm retired, too (except for writing my weekly Substack). And I can see if someone is spending an hour or two commuting, listening is productive. But to sit and stare at the ceiling for 45 minutes (or so) for each podcast on one's list--no. I'm sure it's less taxing for Tim, Sarah, et al. to talk than to compose a newsletter, but listening is sequential and creates a time-sink for me. To each their own.
