David French made a good observation this morning: many of the same "pro-lifers" who wanted Roe overturned also refused vaccinations and are responsible for over 300k lives lost to preventable COVID because they refused the vaccine. He also noted that many states are poised to institute laws that do not preserve the life of the mother; reactionary and punitive. It's not a culture of love, it is a culture of power.

I believe David French is genuine in his advocacy for a "culture of life," just as I believe Charlie, JVL, and Tim are. However, genuinely supporting women and children is not a subsitute for recognizing women's autonomy over their own bodies. Both are necessary.

He's right to call out the ant-vaxxers. He should also call out the states that have banned (or will soon ban/restrict) abortion and have refused Medicaid expansion. Not only will women be forced to endure a pregnancy/birth, they'll have to pay the bills!

I hope once people settle down and stop catastrophisizing/dancing in the end zone, that we'll realize that in a country of 330 million people and no interstate border controls, there are just not resources to enforce any of these performative laws like going after mail shipments or chasing women into other states when they travel for abortions. I mean, we can't even enforce existing laws against illegal narcotics consistently. And Prohibition taught us that Americans are just not going to obey laws that they don't agree with, and if you get enough of them together to flout the laws, then you might as well give up.

Democrats need to take a week or so to be angry and performative, and then settle down and start working the system from the bottom up. Local elections in rural communities where everybody knows everybody might not be as difficult as they think it is. In a small county where people know you personally and like you, running as YOU who happens to be a Dem, and who picks a couple of issues that are of local importance, is a way to overcome the "Dems are evil" propaganda that is being spewed out. I don't think it is well understood by the kinds of people who even know what Substack is how Facebook is now the main source of information for low info voters--especially those in areas that have no local media, or where local media is just regurgitating national stories. Democrats need to learn to use Facebook as effectively as the right has learned. And I hate to say it, but fear and anger is more motivating on these platforms. Taking something away from half the population is going to drive a lot of fear and anger.

Agree. Democrats seem to have lost the capacity for grassroots organization as well the development of a national strategy. Where are the counter parts to the Federalist Society and ALEC? Dems have lacked an organizing principle and perhaps now codification / elucidation of the 14th amendment will provide it.

I actually feel Twitter may be a bigger source of information, but overall agree FB is a big source and Dems suck at social media. Hire staff if you must.

Yes. I read that. Although I disagree with many of his positions, I respect David French because he is not a hypocrite, something I cannot say about the VAST majority of so-called "Christians" who pontificate about a "culture of life" while doing everything in their power to make people miserable.

Exactly, same here.
