What is really scary is that Trump said he wants generals who listen to HIM just like Hitler, and if they refuse they will be removed. When Trump was president he wanted to nuke Iran but was stopped by the generals, who knows he will do it now, Michael Flynn will be happy to obey.

Trump will surround himself with loyalists only and fire most civil servants. There will be few experienced people left, he will have ultimate power. The Supreme Court is 100% on his side (6 of them), they all work for the Heritage Foundation and will do everything they can to follow their agenda.

Mike Johnson has made it clear, he will not certify the election unless Trump wins, so if the Dems don't take the house he will do it.

Biden and Harris should have fired back when Trump started his campaign of fear about the immigrants. Many MAGA voters believe that our cities are overrun by criminal undocumented immigrants. They believe the lie that Biden destroyed the economy and that inflation and high prices are his fault (it is worldwide) we recovered better than any other country.

Trump's fear and hate mongering is out of control but Biden has not spoken to us from the Oval Office, to calm the waters, expose the lies and talk about his accomplishments. Harris should have been 10 points ahead of Trump.

The one good thing is that he can’t control the military but also, how tf has everyone memoryholed the fact that trump and Barr sent an interagency group with no identifiers to throw people into the back of a van during Summer 2020.

If Trump is elected I do not think he will bother submitting nominations to the Senate for approval. Rather he will govern with all agencies headed by acting apointees.

Regarding this X post about voters going back and forth like "a cat chasing a laser pointer":

If one is really so fickle until the moment they're in the voting booth, then that tells me they're not doing any research on the candidates or keeping up with their campaigns. That means they're walking in there almost completely uninformed, which is really infuriating to me on its own, because it's sheer laziness and privilege when one can honestly say they don't follow or care about politics.

But on top of that, people are actually undecided in THIS election? I don't know how that can be. I know some people are mad at Harris for Israel, they don't like her fiscal policy, and so on, but this election is not about issues. Not when Trump is involved. It's about whether, as a voter, you want to continue living in a democratic republic where the Bill of Rights and the Constitution actually still matter, or in a fascist oligarchy that flies in the face of all of that? That should be an EASY choice.

Save this democracy now. Nitpick about issues later.

I see it this way: Following the 2020 trends Harris will handily win the popular vote and eek out an Electoral College victory. However a substantial number of people voted against Trump and still voted Republican down ballot. It is possible the Republicans keep a slim House majority and a gain one or two vote majority in the Senate. This will shape everything that Harris can or cannot do.

The biggest delusion I keep hearing is that if Harris wins Trump will go away. He will not.

As long as he has control of one third of the Republican base he will control the Republicans in Congress. Speaker Mike Johnson will have him on speed dial and consult with him on anything the House does. The new Senate Majority Leader is going to be more Trump dependent than Mitch McConnell ever was and will certainly slow down administration and judicial appointments to a trickle.

Trump himself will set up a "shadow presidency" out of Mar-a-Lago. He will carry on diplomatic contacts with his "friends" overseas as he has done the last four years. (One has to wonder if that wasn't why he felt the need to steal all the classified documents.)

He will have a staff of paid and volunteer advisors and can expect financial support from his oligarchs. They probably wouldn't balk at funding his operation to the tune of a million dollars a day.

He will not run for President again but he will designate his successor.

Only death will rid us of Trump and even then he may have influence beyond the grave.

From AB Stoddard: "IF YOU BELIEVE DONALD TRUMP, his campaign, his allies, and most of the polling trends, the candidate who attempted a coup and incited an insurrection is going to win the presidency back next week.

This is very likely."

No, it is not very likely. According to polling, the race is supposedly in a dead heat. Dead heat means either outcome is equally likely. Trump WILL lose the popular. The only question is whether a few thousand votes in the right places will give him the Electoral College. “Polls are not votes. The candidates are not deadlocked. There is no ahead or behind, even “with 72% of precincts reporting” on election night. The way elections work is they’re 0-0 all the way up until the votes are counted and then someone wins.” That’s how elections work…

Totally and not only that the actual winner may not be known for days (weeks?) after the polls have closed let alone a week before the polls open! But anger and anxiety is what drives people to post, repost, like and share--- the life blood of the antisocial media.

When Harris wins she is going to need an Attorney General that gets things done. Another stolen election plot underway and still no prosecutions from the plot 4 years ago.

Much of that will depend on who controls the Senate and the power of consent. If Republicans control the Senate it is possible she won't have an attorney general or any cabinet member for months into her term. Especially if the Senate Majority Leader is, and he will be, aMAGA/Trump supporter.

You forgot within his first 24 hours he will end the war in Ukraine. Don’t forget that!

I have long thought if the GOP takes over the Senate, Trump will ask the Senate GOP not to seat Adam Schiff, deny him a Committee assignment, or open an ethics investigation into him. Could be one of the first flashpoints in the Senate.

"...it would be a nice joke if a surrogate’s remark at the last moment made a difference." Yes Bill, you are so right. And you know which joke is the perfect metaphor? Monty Python's 'The Meaning of Life'. The French restaurant scene. This is Trump's "waffer-thin mint" moment. He and his campaign are going to EXPLODE. The gluttony is also perfect symbolism. This is also why it will be considered the 'October surprise', because no one would have believed it possible after all he has said and done. He is gone. You are right with this final observation too..." it should hurt Trump among all voters, of any descent, everywhere." It will. He is done. Thank god for The Bulwark.

Terrifying scenario. But if Trump wins, he will fire Jack Smith, try to scuttle the Georgia and NY civil cases, then play golf and tweet daily for four more years. It’s always all about Trump … and the Jack Smith cases are paramount; every thing else a distraction.

I'm tired of anxiety. I know there is nothing else I can do except get my new car before 1 January 2025. I voted straight Democratic ticket for the first time ever. I have to hope for the best and hope that The Lady K wins the electoral college by 2-4 votes. If she wins, then JVL needs to put his dark powers to full use and get up in people's *sses about repealing the Electoral College (you know you want to trash it, JVL). That revolting concept was ok for it's time, but now, it holds this nation hostage every 4 years and it has to stop. I think this country should copy the French presidential election system--2 rounds. In Round 1, every authoritarian, crank, freak, weirdo, and super perv can run for president. The votes are cast. If someone gets 50% plus 2 votes, then you win (the plus 2 is not in the French system, but I threw it in to be a little kinky, kids). Round 2 will happen if no one hits 50% plus 2. The top 2 go at, and the winner is 51% plus 2 votes (it's my kink). If we are going to elect a president, then we should be electing a president and not some anonymous elector.

RE: Cheap Shots and waffling voters as "cats chasing laser pointers"

"I don't really know if it's really fair to judge a candidate for one reason or another."

With the choices and the consequences thereof at hand, I don't really know if it's the *candidates* who need judging so much as the cats chasing the laser pointer.

A thought experiment: picture the "joke" referencing Hawaii instead of Puerto Rico. Another island with a non-Anglo heritage. But a state instead of a territory, and as a result not abandoned by Trump's government when hammered by a major tropical storm. But it's a blue state, so my thought is that the reactions would be just about the same. No real condemnation, as it was said "with love."

The gift that keeps giving…. Stephen Miller rants about America being for Americans, juxtaposed with Melania Trump, who barely speaks English introducing her husband, the former President. What a joke!
