Sorry, Mad Potter, but that's just the kind of rhetoric that lost us the election in 2024 and is going to lose it for us again in 2028, if there is an election (which I highly doubt because of rhetoric like that losing us the 2024 election).
(Yes, I'm fuming still about the gender blaming coming from Democratic operatives that all those racist, misogynist, homophobic "persons" -- admit it, you mean "mostly men" -- lost the election because they didn't want a Black woman as president. Hell, I wish it were just that simple.)
I did not in any way mean to indicate that racism/homophobia/misogyny was the sole reason non-cult voted for Trump. (Or failed to vote, which was the same as voting for him.) There were a lot of reasons. But it was a significant motivator for a significant number. I completely understand that people may have been unhappy with Biden’s administration and were looking for a major change. I wasn’t one of them, but I can see it. But after Trump’s first campaign, his first term, his second campaign and loss, and his third campaign of lies and bitterness, it was patently obvious to any person driven by logic that, no matter how much they disliked the trend of Democratic policy, Trump was without question completely unsuited for the presidency.
I mean, for crying out loud, the man gave a blow job to a microphone in front of a crowd of thousands — including children. And he made no secret of his intention to become a dictator, no secret of his plan to subvert the law and the constitution in order to seek revenge on anyone who had personally annoyed him. He almost salivated over the prospect of martial law and using regular military troops in a domestic role. He was open about his near-worship of Putin and his near-visceral hatred of NATO. He was a 4-time convicted felon. He was an adjudicated rapist. He led an insurrection against the United Staes of America.
The point is, people who are not brainwashed Trump cult but voted for him anyway were pretty clearly motivated by something more powerful than logic or simple evaluation of the facts. My comment merely speculated that something was deep-seated hatred — of non-whites or of LGBTQ or of women or some combination thereof. The one thing Trump promised that was constant was that he would make people in those categories suffer, he would ensure that they would be officially considered inferior to the “real Americans”, that they would have fewer opportunities to pursue the American ideal. Anyone voting for him voted for that promise, and they simply would not vote for someone who occupies two of those three groups, no matter how much more personally qualified she might be.
It was not Democratic “rhetoric” that caused Harris to lose. There were, as you point out, lots of reasons, but to deny pure visceral hatred from Trump voters as a major motivator is naive. I have yet to talk to any Trump voter, who claimed they just didn’t know enough about Harris’s policies, that when asked could name even one that Trump articulated better and had more detailed plans for. Not one. The best they ever come up with is a vague “the economy” or “immigration”, with zero specifics. To me, that’s code for “He’s going to put THEM (substitute some group they hate or fear) in their place.”
And to be honest, I am tired of men (mostly white, cis) whining about how picked on they are. The government isn’t making men bleed out in a parking lot because they aren’t quite near enough to death to merit emergency room treatment, is not requiring teen boys to report their sexual cycles to the state or to the school, is not forbidding men to go to another state to receive life-saving medical care, is not criminally prosecuting physicians who treat men, is not questioning men at the door to men’s rooms about their genitalia. Men still rule the wealth in this country, still get paid more, still occupy the highest positions of power. If anything is being threatened, it’s their feeling of god-given privilege — fear that some of the “under classes” might reasonably aspire to the same.
A violent and cruel sentiment seems to control the way trumpers think. They fail to examine the false info dished out by their cult leader. They lack common sense. The algorithms rewired their brains-
In your last paragraph concerning the male whining is spot on. In addition to all u mentioned, men still make higher wages than their female counterparts.
And yes, no one “owns” their reproductive healthcare. Their power remains a a constant in our society- so no boo-hoo for men…..

Harris had an 82 page economic plan on her campaign site. Trump had an index card with two things on it: 1) Tax cuts for billionaires. 2) Tariffs. That's it.
And all we got from voters before the election was they wanted more specifics from Harris.
And hidden in his back pocket was a copy of Project 2025- the fascist playbook about which he denied knowing. He may not have read it, but his nazi WH deputy chief, Stephen Miller is implementing it with each illegal executive order.

Sadly, women can also be excellent misogynists.
