The forgotten American, furious at wealth inequality, has voted for the most regressive tax policy in living memory, when you factor in that almost nothing could be more regressive than across the board tariffs. We bought the ticket, let's take the ride. Because no matter what happens, we've accomplished the two most important things: Own the libs, and prevent a woman of color from becoming president. That'll teach her to know her place and not humiliate the man on the debate stage like that!

Harris's displays of manifest competence and ability never really merited her serious consideration, only resentment and boys' club kleptocrats talking amongst themselves about how stupid she is. The unfairness of it all, where someone smart, prepared, and caring, loses to someone as lazy and stupid as Trump, while the apparatchiks and propagandists go into overdrive flooding the zone with lies that truth is fantasy and lies are reality, really is a lot to take in.

Well said! It’s so frustrating because we know the truth but are fighting handicapped against a massive propaganda information environment on the right which seems insurmountable. We have a free press but half the country voluntarily self selects out and chooses their Pravda. How to combat that? Repeating “they’re corrupt and in it for the billionaires” a thousand times a day would be a good start.

I can't begin to tell you how frustrating it is. It will only get worse as Fox News has more and more clout and becomes State TV. Then comes the defunding of public schools, the financial break for private religious schools, and the increase in tuition for really good Universities so only the elites can afford to attend. We have majority of the country who thinks a moron like Trump would be a good Presidrnt. It will only get worse.

And yesterday at the Univ of TX, men from Official Street Preachers held up signs that "listed property" beginning with WOMEN, SLAVES, CARS, LAND... and Nick Fuentes posted "your body, my choice, FOREVER!'

And 12 million voters who voted for Biden failed to show up Tuesday for Harris, so she lost.

This has been the big thing for me since it was clear Trump was winning the popular vote. Where'd the millions of Biden supporters in 2020 go? I'm not on board with the conspiracies; I want real answers, not necessarily satisfying ones.

There may be many other questions from others, but I want to know the makeup of the voters that didn't show and why they didn't. Were they Republicans that didn't want to support Trump, but couldn't bring themselves (for whatever reason) to support Harris? Were the soft Democrats that felt disregarded by having no primary and watching Harris cater to right-leaning voters instead? Or far-left progressives that wanted to punish Harris over Gaza and/or a host of other things?

My guess is, regardless of who they are and their specific reasons, in general, they no longer felt Trump to be so much a threat. They have convinced themselves the economy was better or they've forgotten the ways he was so bad. Everyone seems to have memory-holed COVID so they don't really go there when considering his presidency. So basically there were a variety of people that, because he was in their face and had been for four years as President, and because at the time there was a raging pandemic, millions of Americans that wanted Trump gone at the time found Biden palatable enough to pull the lever for him. Four years later, they've forgotten some of the ugliest parts of Trump's four years and they've decided to blame Biden, and by extension, Harris for their current dissatisfaction. They didn't want to vote for Trump, but they didn't want to vote for Harris either. They didn't fear Trump's return enough to vote against him, so they just stayed home and let the chips fall where they may.

The fact that she lost by such narrow margins in all the swing states suggests her campaign was working. It's not unreasonable to think that, had she had more time, she could've improved her position in other states, and perhaps, in the swing states as well. If she was able to squeeze out a few thousand more from the Blue Wall states, she would've won the EC while losing the popular vote, which would've been the poetic cherry-on-top of his defeat by a non-white, child-of-immigrants woman.

What I also find interesting is that Trump got less votes than 2020, yet he gained in just about every demographic in every state on his 2020 numbers. This means he must've lost many voters, but picked up many new ones that largely offset the losses. But not enough people that left Trump in 2024 voted for Harris, it would seem.

Simon Rosenberg's Hopium Chronicles did part of the breakdown this a.m. Are you on his substack?

PS I truly think it is misogyny and racism. Good ole' boys...

PPS The fact she lost by such narrow margins, like HRC did, makes one wonder what Trump and Johnson's "secret" was. MAGA has put people in election positions and county offices and other places the past few years. Two women were just arrested in Tina Peters' district for stealing mailed ballots and voting them. How many weren't caught? Were there other tactics? I don't see how you actually steal voting machine votes but targeting a few key districts we know is done. But it would be more comforting to think another election was stolen than that we did it to ourselves on the third try.

Yes, wondered what their secret was too. And don't forget Trump has Musk and other billionaires from the tech industry who could have hacked a few voting machines. The thing pisses me off is that the voters polling showed that Trump got a majority of Black men and Hispanics. I read recently that a lot illegal Hispanic immigrants supported him too because they dont believe THEY will be deported. So a lot of sexism and racism was in play. Depressing.

I vaguely recall a number of years back there was a demo of how you could sit outside a polling station with a smartphone and flip votes on the machines. I don't remember anything else so I have no idea if it's true but that would still be quite limited if it were. I don't think hacking machines or even stuffing ballot boxes would change an election unless it was very targeted and a huge effort. But who knows these days... A lot of sexism and racism in play, as you say. Very depressing.

I worked as a poll worker in 2020. All the voting machines are not connected to internet. Absolutely not! I get that some of us want to go to the conspiracy theory route because what just happened is just incomprehensible. But please let's not stoop to their level! As we said before, how can you explain the results in NV, NC and AZ where people voted for Democrats in down ballot and for Trump if there was a fraud? As Bill Kristol said, people have spoken, but we do not have to like it. For now, I am in the mood of let- me- watch- and -enjoy "Let the leopards eat their faces.". Please do not preach me about me being petty and horrible. I pray and repent every night!

"But it would be more comforting to think another election was stolen than that we did it to ourselves on the third try."

This is what I keep trying to keep top of mind. I'm open to evidence of funny business and if sufficient evidence exists, we should absolutely pursue it. But people immediately jumped to conspiracies and it's just way too soon to rule out many probably scenarios. Now, I wouldn't at all be surprised that some, if not all, of these R's-stole-the-election folks online are foreign actors flipping the script. With Trump having won, they no longer have that goal, so they shift to focus on continuing to sew distrust and decisiveness, but from the D angle this time.

I don't see it's possible to fiddle voting machines coast to coast. In 2016 it was targeting voters with propaganda in a few districts. But Russia owns us now, so why waste any more time. Proud Boys will do their dirty work as soon as they're released. (Interesting Iran is so nervous now that we're both Putin acolytes. )

It's not just Russia that has an interest in keeping our division stoked. China, North Korea, and Iran would all likely enjoy watching us cannibalize ourselves.

But they're now the WH's Besties...

I think their goal is to squeeze Trump for all he's worth while still working to undermine and destabilize us. They want the US diminished and Trump is a means to that end.

Yeah the turnout was abysmal after all the praise for early vote records. I hope they’re happy they made their point by not showing.
