This week I’m joined by Sean McNulty of The Ankler to talk about the week’s biggest entertainment news: the merger of the WWE and UFC into a $21 billion sports-entertainment company. But this move is just a piece of the puzzle if you want to understand the complex dance between sports leagues, streaming companies, and cable bundles. Are sports leagues the ultimate “arms dealers” in the streaming wars, moving from company to company as these services try to find content that makes sense for viewers and advertisers alike? Or are teams with revenue tied to regional sports network deals kind of … well, screwed? All this and more—including a chat about the actual king of televised sports; and no, I’m not talking about the NFL—on this week’s show!

Thanks for this episode. I appreciated the discussion on cable packages and streaming. I am just about there with getting rid of cable, tired of paying for the privilege to maybe be entertained. As far as streaming A Prime is all I have now, still have it primarily for the shipping. I'm in a rural area and the selection is much better than what is available most of the time in town. I do watch sports but will watch less as they go to different streaming services, really not worth it to have to switch on and off as seasons start and end. I n the end it will come down to a numbers decision and hard look at how much time do I really have to sit in front of the TV and how much to spend especially if a subscription has a limited # of devices allowed. Appreciate the show as always.
JHC! Did Vince McMahon get a face transplant? That's ghoulish.
Maybe he's auditioning for the lead in a reboot of Gone With the Wind.
His face has seemingly changed a lot in the last ten years, although it’s not really different than it was a year ago. Suddenly dying his hair black and growing the generalissimo mustache is a bit weird looking though.
He looks like a Cuban mafia boss from the Batista days.
